If there's anything you guys have learnt about me over the past year (apart from my ability to shamelessly fill the internet with five thousand word blog posts) it's that I'm not the greatest when it comes to expressing myself. But hey, it's the new year (almost) and, whilst I'm definitely not going to be one of those 'new year, new me' kind of gals, I thought I would at least finish off 2015 with a bit of a reflective blog post. Gulp, here come the feels..
Funnily enough, nothing actually happened in January. Or at least, nothing that I can really remember. I turned twenty two, I moved into a new place with Ollie, I probably had a really bad hang-over from last new years, and...that's about it. The next month was when things really started to get going..
Believe it or not, I actually started this blog in February! I still can't believe Cocochic is less than a year old, but it just makes me even more excited about whats to come in the future. I started this blog as a bit of a gamble. I had been semi-professionally blogging/writing on a European network for a few years before hand, but it never really developed into anything. So, when it came to leaving the network, I decided to create Cocochic as an 'all or nothing' kind of a venture. If it didn't work out, then so be it. But somehow, ten months later, I'm still here tapping away and loving every minute of it. It's the best decision I've ever made, and I have all of you to thank for it!
March was the month that I decided to do something different, and start Tip Tuesdays! I know I haven't posted every single Tuesday, but I'm pretty impressed at how many I've done in that time. They're still some of my most popular posts to date, and they're my favourite to write too. Little did I know that this would lead on to something massive down the line..
At the end of March I interned at Company magazine (RIP) for a few days to help with a project I was doing at University. It went SO well and I met some of the nicest people there. And in April, well, they decided that they wanted me to officially become a part of the team and write for them on a freelance basis! Growing up it was always a dream of mine to work at a magazine, and even though I was doing it from the comfort of my own home in Cornwall, it still felt like a pretty huge achievement.
May was the month that my blog really started to pick up. My views had tripled (I made a post on how to triple your blog views here, FYI..), work was a-flowin' and I was finally happy with the content I was creating. If that wasn't enough, I also got scouted by a blog agency (aptly named The Blogger Agent) who I still work with to this day.
I've never been great when it comes to attending University, so I was stunned to find that I had actually won an award for the 'Best Blog' on my course. Ironically enough, I was actually at home blogging instead of accepting my award at the ceremony. Woops.
July was the month where I managed to tick Sweden off of my bucket list. Never in a million years did I think this blog would allow me to travel around the world, but there I was, on a plane to Sweden with my boyfriend, travelling free of charge all thanks to Zalando and - of course - you guys. Mind = blown.
If that wasn't enough, in August I managed to win an all-expenses paid weekend trip to Marbella with Mark Hill! Someone pinch me. I jetted off with a bunch of blogger babes and experienced a world I'd never have been able to experience without this blog (do you sense a theme going on here?). Of course, an honorary mention goes out to Mr Mark Hill himself, who - wait for it - actually cut my hair. I've still not felt so glamorous to this day. Yep, even in my bright orange tiger onesie.
Ahh September. The month that I started my third year of Uni, celebrated three years with Ollie and - somehow - hit 5,000 subscribers on Youtube. I also ended up working with some of my absolute favourites brands such as Zalando and Shopstyle. So, - apart from the lack of sleep thanks to Uni - I think it's safe to say that September was a pretty good month.
Okay, so nothing overly noteworthy happened in October, but I did end up going semi-blonde thanks to the lovely people at Ena Salon - something I've always wanted to do, but never quite got around to doing. I also discovered that my lecturers are completely insane, as they asked me to return to University I graduate to guest lecture for first year journalism students next year. Professor Steph? I feel sorry for those poor students.
I'd love to tell you that November was an exciting month but - you guessed it - it wasn't. To be honest, the majority of my time was spent powering through my 'exciting project' alongside thousands of essays for Uni. So if you wondered where I've been hiding for the past few weeks/months, it's been under a mountain of paperwork and case studies. Speaking of which, I should probably be adding to now..
And finally there was December, which was ridiculously exciting for me as it was the month that I finally released The Blogger Journal! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd ever actually come out with my own book, but I was even more stunned to find that you guys actually wanted to buy it! And then when I sold out of my first batch in one week? I literally thought it was some kind of technical error. So now I'm entering 2016 as, I guess, a real life published author/book person. A very average one at that, but one nonetheless. And once again, it was all thanks to you guys and this blog.
So now it's the first day of 2016 and - despite suffering from a monumental hang over (I had an alcohol-induced cry over the Gremlins film last night - Gizmo stole my heart) - I'm feeling super pumped about what the next twelve months have to bring. I'll be graduating from University, (hopefully) building my own home with Ollie as well as generally having a lot more time on my hands to blog and do what I love. Oh, and I'm also going to be applying for Big Brother in the next few weeks. Please vote for me. No seriously, please do it.
So that's it. 2015 in a nutshell. I've never been one for New Years Resolutions (probably because I can't keep them) but screw it, this year I've decided I'm gonna go hard or go home. So here are a 'few' goals I'm hoping to achieve over the next 364 days. 2016 - I'm coming for you.
