My top five self-tanners that fake it good

Top 5 Tanning Products.jpg

So here's the thing. I'm one of those super cautious people that like to OD on the SPF at any given chance, which means sun beds are a no go and - I don't know about you guys - but getting my bits out in front of strangers just for the sake of a spray on tan isn't my idea of a good time. That being said, I do love a little bit of a glow - and that's why I turn to the fake stuff.

I've done the leg work in finding five of the best self-tanners on the market right now - in my humble opinion of course - ranging from budget to blow-out. There should be something for just about everyone here, but if not, feel free to leave your recommendations below!

Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse (£7.99) *

I recently came across the Cocoa Brown brand (what a mouthful) after watching so many of my favourite Youtubers rave about the stuff. Just as I suspected, it was completely worth the hype. Why? Because it creates the most natural looking, streak free tan in just one hour. I like to leave it for two to three hours depending on how dark I want to go / depending on how impatient I'm feeling that day!

Shiseido Daily Bronze Moisturising Emulsion (£32.00) *

The Shiseido emulsion is the priciest of the bunch, but for me I feel like it's a bit of a two-bird-one-stone sort of jobby. The one downside to tanning for me (despite the brown bed sheets) is how dry some products can make my legs if I use them often enough. This little guy packs a ton of moisture whilst also adding a gradual glow. I like to use it in between my 'hardcore tanners' to keep help with longevity.

He-Shi Express Liquid Tan (£20.00) *

This is a cult favourite of mine that I've mentioned far too many times in my Youtube videos. It's a super thin, water like product that takes a little getting used to at first, but once you've mastered the art of application it really is a dream come true. Did I just say that about a tan? Oh dear. Either way, it's pretty much fool proof and looks even better the next day!

St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion Face (£22.00) *

Obviously St Tropez was going to crop up somewhere in this little hall of fame, but instead of going for their usual classics I've decided to go for something a little more face-based. I don't know about you lot, but whenever I apply fake tan to my cheeks (of the facial variety) I always end up with a few pesky break outs. After discovering this little beauty (that comes with a pump!!) I've never had any issues at all.

St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse (£4.99)

This may not be the best tan in the whole wide world, but it's probably the best that I've found for the price. With most budget tans, they can often look good at first, then wear into a patchy, mouldy biscuit mess. Sound familiar? This lightweight foam is super easy to apply and gives a nice natural tint to the skin without looking over done. Be sure to moisturise those elbows and knees before using this, to make for a patch-free finish.
